There's no complete cure to this disease. The patients have to take medication for long term and control their diets. There is research done to cure the classic PKU. Recently, they have cured PKU in mice by inserting gene into non-coding part of the liver cell. The mice recovered after 3 intravenous injections and their Phe level remained stable after that. BUT, they are still finding way to safely insert the gene into human cell.
